On Saturday, 8th February 2020 Helen Browne from NISIG attended one of Ireland’s largest Surrogacy Information Events to date.

More than 200 people attended the event in Athlone, which comprised of couples who are interested in Irish surrogacy, couples and surrogates already thinking of or committed to their own surrogacy journey and any woman who seeks information on becoming a surrogate.

A wide range of speakers discussed all aspects of Domestic Surrogacy.

Speakers at this event included:

Becky Loftus – A recent surrogate mother;

Becky spoke about her own experiences carrying a child on behalf of friends who could not ordinarily conceive (see recently appeared on the Late, Late Show);

Helen Browne – Founder of NISIG

Helen spoke about NISIG and the services we provide.  She also discussed their engagement with the Department of Health regarding the lack of legislation.

Annette Hickey – Head of Surrogacy & Fertility Law at Poe Kiely Hogan Lanigan Solicitors;

Annette spoke about her own experiences and highlighted the common issues intending parents should be aware of. She also discussed the proposed changes in legislation in Ireland and what this will mean for intending surrogate parents going forward.

John Kennedy –  Medical director SIMS IVF Clinic;

John spoke about the options available and discussed how a clear focus the diagnostic stage of infertility investigations is the key to successful treatment in the future.
